George Dunn papers, 1862 Feb. 1-1863 June 17.

Correspondence documenting George Dunn's employment as a steel-plate engraver and lithographic printer for the Confederate Treasury, including letter, 1 Feb. 1862, from B.F. Ficklin, London, specifying the contractual terms by which Dunn was to print Confederate currency, with the endorsement of Fraser, Trenholm & Co., Liverpool, agreeing to honor any draft drawn upon them by C.G. Memminger for Dunn's wages. Letter, 6 Jan. 1863, Dunn to his wife, Margaret, complaining of difficulties in exchanging the Confederate paper currency in which he was paid for English pounds, noting the acceptance of his recommendation that English and Scottish employees of the Treasury Department be paid in drafts upon Fraser, Trenholm & Co., Liverpool, also expressing Dunn's faith in the success of the Confederate cause, large number of English and Scottish people in S.C., and giving explicit instructions re addressing and forwarding of her letters in order to cross the blockade. Letter, 25 Mar. 1863, Dunn to his wife, re plans to enter into a partnership with the firm of J.T. Paterson & Co., engravers, of Columbia, S.C., upon completion of his contract with the Confederate government.
